Beck - “Sunday Morning” (Velvet Underground Cover)

Mr. Hansen just created his own “Record Club” with some pretty exclusive members.

What does this club do exactly?

Well … it’s a gathering where he enlists the help of musician friends to record
cover versions of entire albums all in one day. Nothing rehearsed or arranged
beforehand, they just meet up in the studio and just play away.

Quite the endeavour.

The first album he chose to give the covers treatment is the 1967 classic Velvet
Underground album “The Velvet Underground & Nico”. A song a week will
be uploaded to his shiny new website.

First up was “Sunday Morning”. Check out fellow Scientologist (and Beck’s
brother-in-law) Giovanni Ribisi’s mad xylophone skillz. They’ve already put
up a second video of them covering “Waiting For My Man”.

Jenny Lewis - “Black Sand”

Jenny appearing/floating over video footage of beaches, Thailand, weather
maps and vast open skies. Not the greatest video mind you but I loves me some Jenny
any way I can get her.

She was just at Bonnaroo sharing the stage with Elvis Costello and for a fleeting
moment, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Still on the road, promoting last fall’s release of her sophomore album “Acid Tongue”.

Simian Mobile Disco - “Audacity Of Huge”

A very colorful and literal video mixed with some sticky/drippy liquids for the
first single off their new album “Temporary Pleasure” coming out August 17th.
Directed by Kate Moross and Jo Apps.

The Depreciation Guild - “Dream About Me”

8-bit shoegazers (whose singer Kurt Feldman also plays drums for The Pains of
Being Pure at Heart
) with their first music video which as a classic look and feel
of an early 90’s shoegaze performance video with trippy colors and hazy visuals.

They’ll be back on the road this September for their third go around of
North America opening once again for TPOBPAH. Their Montreal stop will be
@ La Sala Rossa September 6.
