Osheaga 2009: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Added to The Lineup
Posted on | June 16, 2009 | 1 Comment

Osheaga organizers aren’t f’ing around.
This year’s edition is believed to be a make or brake situation for the festival
and if this year’s attendance is not up to their desired number it could be all
done for and we would have only ourselves to blame.
I believe this year’s lineup matches up quite well with the other big summer
music festivals happening around the same time and the fact that
All Points West Music Festival is going down the very same weekend in Jersey
City, we get to share the big headliners like Coldplay and Beastie Boys
and now the last missing piece … Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If only a deal
could be worked out in time for My Bloody Valentine to join this roster
than this already awesome lineup would be just down right ridiculous.
Besides YYYs, A few more bands were recently added to the already crowded
schedule:
Saturday, August 1st
Gentleman Reg
K’Naan (MEG Scene)
La Roux (MEG Scene)
The Rural Alberta Advantage
Chinatown
Flash Lightnin’
Sunday, August 2nd
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Tiga (MEG Scene)
Cursive (MEG Scene)
The Beatnuts
Hearltess Bastards
Hey Rosetta!
Ladies Of The Canyon
The Arkells
Yes Giantness (MEG Scene)
Lanan
Li’l Andy & Karaoke Cowboy
Tickets still available right here.
The “In The City” portion of the festival going down 2 days before the
festivities begins (July 30-31) in many a venues around Montreal should
be announced very soon.

Brooklyn Bound + A Posies Interviewed
Posted on | June 11, 2009 | No Comments

As I’m walking out the door, on my way to catch the Northeast bound train to
my debaucherous (one can dream) weekend in New York City, I leave you with my
very first interview with Jon Auer of The Posies.
Psyched! but really it should be up next week along with a review and pix of both shows.
Jon was kind enough to answer a few questions during this busy week in his life
leading up to both said Posies shows this weekend @ The Bell House (June 12) and
the following night @ The Gramercy Theatre.
Their first live performances on North American soil in well over a year and
all this to celebrate the 15th year anniversary of their classic 1993 album
“Frosting On The Beater” which they will perform in it’s entirety
If you still haven’t bought your tickets to this momentous occasion, what
the hell are you waiting for?
If you’re new to The Posies’s music, come check out the album Magnet Magazine
lists as their top 15 power pop albums of all-time.
Can’t make it to NYC this weekend?
You’ll have 2 more chances to see them perform FOTB live this summer.
First one being @ the Taste of Randolph Street Festival in Chicago
June 20th (Tinted Windows and Urge Overkill also on the bill) and
the second @ the Charlotte Pop Fest in Charlotte, North Carolina
which will go down on September 24th.
Jon as a few solo gigs booked up opening for Fountains
Of Wayne on a short July Midwest tour.
Add to that, 2 gigs in his homestate of Washington at the
end of June. Check out theposies.net for more info on
those upcoming shows.

MVs Collection #05
Posted on | June 7, 2009 | No Comments
Wanted to do a special ‘lil edition of MVs collection to coincide with my
weekend trip to NYC. 3/4 of which I’ll see on stage, rockin’ their hearts out.
The Posies – “Definite Door”
A no frills video with excerpts of live performances mixed with the guys just
walking around one assumes the many cities they’ve encountered on that tour.
The Bell House – June 12th @ 8pm and the 13th, The Gramercy Theatre
also @ 8pm. ‘Nuff said.
Miho Hatori – “Barracuda”
An animated Miho, sailing alone in a tiny wooden boat down a gnarly
hellscape with skeletons bustin’ out some sweet dance moves and plants
coming to life. Directed by Ishiura Masura.
Miho’s solo career as been pretty quiet since the release of her fine debut
album 2005’s “Ecdysis”. Songs have been written and possibly recorded for a
2nd album which will be performed for the first time at the Glasslands Gallery,
June 11th @ 11pm – part of an event for the Northside Festival and on the
12th @ The Stone, which goes down at 8pm.
Ida Maria – “Oh My God”
Another performance video from Ida Maria and her boys this time in very close
quarters with quick/jerky cuts throughout.
Ida and her special brand of Norwegian rock will be @ The Bell House,
June 14th @ 8pm.
Telekinesis – “Tokyo”
Telekinesis (aka Michael Benjaman Lerner) walking/driving around his neck of
the woods (Seattle) experiencing Tokyo in his own special ways.
Directed by Dianna Potter.
As I mentioned in this week’s podcast, he’s got a tour stop in Montreal
This Thursday, June 11th @ La Sala Rossa – show starts @ 9pm. Then on
to NYC playing @ Union Hall in Brooklyn June 13th @ 8pm and the next day,
@ the Mercury Lounge, also @ 8pm.
