Coachella 2010: Lineup Announced
Posted on | January 19, 2010 | No Comments
The 11th Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival lineup was unveiled today and
it’s a doozy folks!
You got big ass names like Jay-Z, Faith No More, Muse, Gorillaz, Pavement
and Thom Yorke and his “Eraser” band he put together last fall for his
solo performances.
On the oldies front, a very 80’s heavy lineup of old schoolers like Echo &
The Bunnymen, Grace Jones (where the hell did they dig her up from I wonder … ),
Public Image Limited, Devo, Gary Numan and a very cool relic from the 60’s …
Sly & The Family Stone.
In a lineup like this, you can’t forget your Brooklyn bands: Grizzly Bear,
Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, MGMT and Dirty Projectors.
All these fine artists (130+ in all) will endure the hot, sweaty Southern California
sun @ the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California the weekend of April 16-18, 2010.
If I wasn’t already spending all my dough on South By Southwest, I would totally hit
that.
3 day passes will set you back 269 bones.

Canadian Screenings Of Blur’s New Documentary For 1 Night Only
Posted on | January 13, 2010 | No Comments

The highlight of last year’s Glastonbury music festival was the very
much talked about Blur reunion. All 4 members (Damon Albarn – Singer/
Guitar, Alex James – Bass, Dave Rowntree – Drums and Graham Coxon – Guitar,
who came back into the fold after leaving the band in 2002) was a raging success.
A few more summer festival gigs followed and Blur was done for once again.
This was all captured on film in the new documentary, “No Distance Left to Run”
directed by Dylan Southern & Will Lovelace, shot throughout the band’s 2009
rehearsals and the following summer tour, the film finds the four members for
the first time in nine years.
From an IMDB review of a preview screening:
“It gives an exceedingly honest accounts of their feelings towards each other,
their emotions, their ambitions, the stories behind the songs / albums, their
personal lives, the split-up and the reunion … all interlaced with great gig
footage and behind the scenes “never seen before” footage that really draws you
into the inner circle of the make-up of the band.”
The documentary will have it’s world premiere in London tomorrow night but
for us Canucks, for one night only, we will get a chance to see it on the big
screen aswell.
That night is January 21st @ 7pm on Cineplex movie theatre screens in a few selected cities.
Those cities are:
Calgary : Scotiabank Theatre Chinook
Edmonton : Cineplex Odeon South Edmonton Common
Hamilton : Silvercity Hamilton Mountain Cinemas
London : Silvercity London Cinemas
Montreal : Cinema Banque Scotia
Toronto : Silvercity Fairview Mall Cinemas and Scotiabank Theatre
Vancouver : Scotiabank Theatre
Winnipeg : Silvercity Polo Park Cinemas
Tickets goes on sale this Friday, January 15 trough the Cineplex
and Movietickets websites.
A 2-DVD set will be released in the U.K. February 15.

AGDFA’s 2009 Year-End Comp Mix
Posted on | January 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

Happy New Year.
First great music news of said new year? Soundgarden reunion
is a go! How f’ing crazy is that?
I guess Chris Cornell finally came to his senses. Maybe his
shitty Timbaland produced R&B album, which bombed horribly,
was the last straw or this is just a reunion tour cash grab.
We shall see.
I’m pretty pumped tough. I finally get to cross them off my
“bands I need to see live before I kick it” list.
Now, on to my 2009 year-end songs compilation. I put together
one of these every year to share it among my circle of friends.
As do they. It’s a good way to find out music we might have
missed out on during the year.
For this perticular compilation, I came up with 30 songs.
Most were featured on the podcast, some will be in the
near future.
