The Posies: A New Album! + One-Off Seattle Show In April

Posted on | February 5, 2010 | 1 Comment

Jesus H. Christ on a bus!

So … best news ever! I’ll let Mr. Jon Auer tell it to y’all:

Is pleased to announce:

1. The Posies will play “Frosting On The Beater” in its’ entirety on
April 17, 2010 @ The Crocodile in Seattle, WA.

2. A handful of hours after said Crocodile show, freshly rocked Posies
will leave Seattle for the south of Spain to begin recording a new album
for release in 2010.

And …

3. The Posies will also play all new material for said new album @ The
Crocodile on 4/17/10 as well. For rizzle! Tickets go on sale online
2/6/10 @ TheCrocodile.com.

Nice, eh?

Had heard rumblings that a new Posies album was in the works and Jon
confirmed it in a Facebook posting earlier this week.

Their last release, the most excellent, yet underrated album “Every
Kind Of Light”
came out in 2005 on Rykodisc which will have the distinct
honor of releasing once again a new Posies album in the fall.

As for the “Frosting On The Beater” one-off hometown show this coming
April, having experienced this show twice (reviews and pictures here and here)
in New York last June, y’all Seattleites in for a treat. The Tripwires and
Curtains For You will be the opening acts.

Someone better be bootleggin’ that mofo!

Tickets for the show are 20$ and they shall be going on sale tomorrow @ 10 am.

If you wanna be kept abreast of any news concerning The Posies, may I suggest

MVs Collection #11

Blood Red Shoes – “Light It Up”

England. Night. Winter. Cold. Man running with torch. Fire. BURN! BURN! BURN!

Brighton, UK’s rock twosome will release their sophomore album “Fire Like this”
March 1st in the UK and February 10th in Japan. You can stream a few tracks
off the new album on their official website.

Surfer Blood – “Swim (To Reach The End)”

Typical day in Brooklyn for lead singer John Paul Pitts:

• Woken up and carried overhead by a mob of hipster-y looking people
   to his bathroom.
• Running out of his apartment only sporting tighty whities.
• Bumping into douchebags, wearing evil Mickey Mouse looking masks
in a park picking on a ice cream eating little girl.
• Finding pants at a laundromat.
• To finally, ending up on stage at a gig.

Directed by Chunwoo Kae and Kevin Chapados.

Their most excellent debut album “Astro Coast” is out now.

Starting this week, they will embark on a massive 46 city tour which will
stop in Montreal March 5th @ Il Motore. A stop at SXSW is in the cards aswell.

Warpaint – “Elephants”

3 foxy ladies (and one grunge-y looking drummer) filmed in slo-mo, a wind machine
and an empty performance space. That’s all you need really. Directed by Bruce Muller.

This L.A. foursome (along with Surfer Blood) were my highlights at CMJ ’09.
Starting this week, they’ll be on the road again opening for Akron/Family.
They too will appear at this year’s SXSW. Their debut EP “Exquisite Corpse”
is out now.

Local Natives – “Airplane”

Shot in a dusty, old mansion, portraits of band members turning into creepy skeletons
and other wacky things occuring. Great use of stop motion video. Directed by Mark Waring.

Another great L.A. Band who’s debut album “Gorilla Manor” has been out
independently for the last year will be officially released in the
good ol’ US of A by Frenchkiss Records February 16th.

You can catch ’em @ SXSW.

Hollerado – “Juliette”

The band playing at what seems to be an hippy house party run by “Juliette”
better known as Lois Lane in the originial Superman movie and all around
crazy Canuck lady Margot Kidder. directed by Marc Ricciardelli.

You can download their entire album for free right here (scroll towards
the middle of the page). Arts & Crafts are re-releasing “Record In A Bag”
February 9th.

They’ll be doing a month long residency at Le Divan Orange every Saturday
starting February 6th. SXSW bound? you bet your sweet ass they are.

One of my true listening pleasures of 2009 was the sophomore album
“Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future” by L.A. duo The Bird And The Bee.

Singer Inara George‘s luscious voice and Greg Kurstin‘s wizardry behind
the boards crafted one of the best electro/lounge-y/retro pop album of
last year.

They’re back! this time with a new tribute album to 80’s cheese ball
love song crafters Hall & Oates titled “Guiltless Pleasures Volume 1:
A tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates” coming out March 23rd on
Blue Note Records.

It features 8 classic covers along with one new original song
titled “Heard It On The Radio.”

I am not surprised in the least by this release. They’ve done quite a
few covers at their live shows over the years. In fact, I shot this
footage
of “How Deep Is Your Love” by The Bee Gees (candidates for volume 2?)
at an in-store performance @ Waterloo Records at South By Southwest last year.

Sadly for me (us), no SXSW appearance for TBATB this year. Inara is about to pop
out her first kid in April. They will however, have an album release party @
The El Rey Theatre in L.A. March 5th. Tickets are on sale right now.

If you watch The Grammys on Sunday (and who doesn’t really), Greg is one
of the nominee for Producer Of The Year for his work on the Bird And The
Bee and Lily Allen’s album “It’s Not You, It’s Me”.

Here’s them covering “I Can’t Go For That”, shot @ The Independent in
San Francisco – February 9th, 2009.
