Athens, Georgia’s garage rockers / power poppers The Whigs are
back with a new album titled “In The Dark” coming out March 16th.

Produced by Ben Allen (worked on Gnarls Barkley’s St. Elsewhere
and Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion) It’s the
follow up to their crazy good, swift kick in the gonads 2008
rock n’ roll opus “Mission Control”.

I will freely admit that I was not a fan of their 2005 debut
“Give ‘Em All a Big Fat Lip”. Listened to that album once and
just dismissed them as another generic rock band that did
absolutely nothing for me.

But … when I heard Mission Control’s first single “Right
Hand On My Heart”, a blast of sweet, garage-y, southern power
pop well that just proved to me how f’ing wrong I was. You
also must see them live to really appreciate the raw power of
this rock threesome.

Lucky for you, you’ll be able to experience this raw power I
speak of. They’ll be hitting the road starting February
26th opening for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Then, starting
in April, they will co-headline a tour with Band Of Skulls.

You’ll also get half a dozen chances to catch ’em live next
month @ South By Southwest.

a sneak preview of the album by offering the opening track
“Hundred / Million” and the title track “In The Dark”

SXSW: 2010 Filter Magazine’s Day Party @ Cedar Street Courtyard

I’ve been to this shinding these last couple of years and it is by far the
best day party around at one of the sweetest outside venues I think
i’ve ever been to.

Highlights from this year’s lineup includes Miike Snow, Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club (new album “Beat the Devil’s Tattoo” out March 9th),
The Temper Trap, Local Natives and Frightened Rabbit.

Bonus: you get to fill your stomach with free, delicious Texas style BBQ.

Ain’t nuthin’ wrong wit dat.

SXSW: 2010 ( Unofficial ) Music Torrent

It’s back son!

The same people that were behind last year’s unofficial SXSW torrent
(and mad props to them I say) are back at it again with the
first part (of usually 3) which equals 646 mp3s at just over
3 gigs:

Since the torrent just went online, it will be slow going at
first but has more and more people seeds this behemoth, it
should be a breeze to download the whole thing so …

mp3s are added to the band/artist bios on the SXSW website so
keep checking back here for updates.

Having blogged about this 6 months ago, I’m happy to say there’s
finally a new Giant Drag release spewed forth into the world.

These tracks i’ve been in the works for years. Nice to hear the
studio version of these songs in all their shiny glory.

We won’t have to wait another 5 years for all new material,
Annie Hardy and Micah Calabrese are in the studio right now
putting the finishing touches on their sophomore album.

There’s a sliver of a chance they might get their asses at SXSW
to promote the new EP. Just a sliver tough.

Check out the music video for “Stuff To Live For” and take a
gander at Annie’s outstanding robot acting in Spike Jonze‘s
new short film that just premiered at Sundance titled “I’m Here”.
