An awkwardly painful interview for their live radio debut on yesterday’s
KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic where host Jason Bentley tried with all
is might to get anything out of them but me thinks they had just rolled out
of bed and they were still half awake at that point.

Oh the life of indie rock stars!

Not much was learned but we did get some nice performances.

You can stream it here or download the MP3 here.

They have a small tour of Europe scheduled for the beginning of December
and they should be back on the road some more for 2011.

Pop Montreal 2010: The Videos

Posted on | October 5, 2010 | 2 Comments

Still recuperating from last week’s 5-night marathon of shows,
which luckily (depending on the night) I will get to experience
all over again in 2 weeks time for the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon in
The Big Apple.

As a famous L.A. movie cop once said: “I’m gettin’ too old for
this shit”
.

The highlight of Pop Montreal 2010 for me would be Timber Timbre
@ the Ukraine Federation. You could’ve heard a pin drop
the whole time they were on stage. Their music totally
took me to another place and time.

They were simply amazing.

German Digital Hardcore troublemakers Atari Teenage Riot @
Les Foufounes Electriques was an all out assault on my senses.

The sight of those non-stop strobing lights made me bordeline
epileptic, those relentless beats made me dizzy and the stench
of stale beer and piss permeating all around Les Foufounes
was nauseating … damn it if it wasn’t one of the best show
the Pop Montreal crew ever put on.

Other highlights
including shuffling my feet to the sweet
New Order-ish inspired beats from electro-rock outfit
Delphic @ Le National and the sweet shoegaze / electro-y
sounds of Brooklyn band The Depreciation Guild.

Check out
some of the videos I shot during the festival.

If you know some of the song titles, do let me know in the
comment section. I was too lazy too look them up.

Pop Montreal 2010: Day 3 Picks

Posted on | October 1, 2010 | No Comments

Rain and grey skies once again on today’s menu but do not fret
fellow festival goers, the sun shall return in kind this weekend.

Timber Timbre @ Ukrainian Federation / 10pm [ ms ]

The show to see this evening is without a doubt Timber Timbre
@ the Ukrainian Federation.

The trio led by Taylor Kirk, a Torontonian by birth, who you’d
swear came right out of the swampy backwoods of Mississipi.

An hybrid of folk, blues and country that’s very gothic in theme
and would fit quite well as background music on any given True
Blood
episode.

Their self-titled album released last year was shortlisted for the Polaris
Music Prize
and was one of the best releases of 2009.

Not to be missed.

Warpaint @ Place Des Arts / 8:45pm [ myspace ]

UK gloomy gusses The XX, back for their third appearance in less
than a year in our fair city,  fresh from winning the 2010
Mercury Prize
, bringing along with them L.A. buzz band Warpaint
who’s debut album “The Fool” will be released October 25th.

The XX @ Place Des Arts / 9:30pm [ myspace ]

Shortpants Romance @ L’Abreuvoir / 11:00pm [ ms ]

Make sure to check out local band Shortpants Romance, full of
fuzzed out guitars and heavy riffs, reminiscent of those great
mid-90s female fronted bands like Lush, Belly, Thowing Muses and
Veruca Salt. Their debut EP “The Yel-La Tapes” is available
for download on their Bandcamp page.

Savoir Adore @ BBQ Notman House / 4pm [ myspace ]

And if you like eating free food, why not drop by the Notman House
to engorge yourself on some delicious BBQ and music. Starts
at 4 ends at 8pm.

Opening up this shinding will be Brooklyn Electro-Folk-Pop duo
Savoir Adore who’s debut album “In The Wooded Forest” is out now.
