My Year-End Lists Of 2009
Posted on | December 27, 2009 | 1 Comment

One of the best year we’ve had music wise in a long time.
Lot’s of new bands that blew my mindhole, veterans that
came back on the scene and did the same. A few disappointments
(I’m looking at you Mute Math and Dredg) and outright failures
(Chris Cornell … seriously dude?) some kick ass hip hop
(Tanya Morgan, Blakroc, Dälek) I loved it all.

Albums Of The ’00s:
Without a doubt, my favorite album of the Aughts is
Autolux’s Future Perfect. It’s the one I’ve listened
to the most, the one i’ve pimped out to all my friends
and strangers alike. It’s out of this world hypnotic sound,
it’s dark, fuzzy, distorted guitars drenched in reverb …
it blows my mind everytime I hear it. The musical chemistry
between singer /bassist Eugene Goreshter, guitarist Greg
Edwards and Carla Azar, the best gosh darn drummer in the
business today is undeniable. Will 2010 be the year we
finally get to hear their sophomore album “Transit, Transit”?
I sure as shit hope so.
2000 : Radiohead Kid A
2001 : Bjork Vespertine
2002 : Interpol Turn On The Bright Lights
2003 : Massive Attack 100th Window
2004 : Autolux Future Perfect
2005 : Dredg Catch Without Arms
2006 : Mute Math Mute Math
2007 : John Davis Arigato!
2008 : Glasvegas Glasvegas
2009 : Manchester Orchestra Mean Everything To Nothing
Fav Films Of ’09:
There wasn’t a movie this year that just blew me away.
There’s a few that made me LOL’d, ones that were
big ‘ol WTFs that entertained the hell out of me and
there’s one that jerked a few tears out of this cold
hearted bastard. Hoping for a better year in films for
2010.

MP3 : Jon Auer Covering Holiday Classic “Let It Snow”
Posted on | December 23, 2009 | 17 Comments

Got a lil’ Christmas treat for y’all.
In between being a Posies, a Big Star member, a record producer
extraordinaire, solo artist and a swell Haberdasher, Jon Auer
took the time to record (for my blog no less) his own
unique, beautifully rendered if somewhat dark-ish acoustic
version of the holiday classic “Let It Snow!”.
All knowing Wiki tells me that it was written and recorded in
California, July 1945, on what was the hottest day on record
at the time.
Never once mentioning Christmas or the Holidays in any way,
it somehow managed to become one of the best-selling songs
of all time and the holiday classic we all know and
love.
For some, Christmas may mean spending it the sun on a hot
Dominican Republic vacation or a nice stay in many a Jamaican
hotels, but for the rest of us, a great Christmas movie or a song
like “Let It Snow” is all one needs.
For me, whenever I hear this song, the only thing that comes
to mind are the end credits for both Die Hard movies.
Why? I dunno. It just does.

Massive Attack Feat. Hope Sandoval – “Paradise Circus” (NSFW)
An old woman, being interviewed about her experience in a “fuck film” as
she calls it. It’s scenes between her and footage from the old skin flick.
1973’s “Devil In Miss Jones” is said flick and Georgina Spelvin is
the actress in question. Directed by Toby Dye.
From their forthcoming album titled “Heligoland” which comes out February 9.
The XX – “Basic Space”
A basic performance video set in a dark room with purty, trippy lights
swirling all around them. Directed by Anthony Dickenson.
A really interesting, minimalist video with easy, simple vocals that draws you in.
A song that could help you focus on your studies. Especially kids going for a
masters in public administration or masters in project management.
The eclectic mix of close up shots and electric imagery is a great compliment
to the vocals.
From their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album. The XX-ers
shall be back in Montreal playing @ Le National April 3rd.
Jarvis Cocker – “Further Complications”
Jarvis brings his new album artwork to life. Directed By Stephanie Di Giusto.
May I suggest checking out his appearance on the UK Show “Songbook” where
Mr. Cocker talks about the craft of songwriting and plays a few of his
creations, acoustic style for all to enjoy.
“Further Complications”, his new solo album is out now.
Manchester Orchestra – “Shake It Out”
The life of a redneck trucker and his young African-American son dueling it out
in arm wrestling matches all over tha south. Think Sylvester Stallone in
the cheese-tastic 1987 movie “Over The Top”. Directed by Isaac Rentz.
From one of my favorite albums of the year (top 5) “Mean Everything To Nothing”.
New album in the works for 2010.
