MP3 : Jon Auer Covering Holiday Classic “Let It Snow”

Posted on December 23, 2009 |

Got a lil’ Christmas treat for y’all.

In between being a Posies, a Big Star member, a record producer
extraordinaire
, solo artist and a swell Haberdasher, Jon Auer
took the time to record (for my blog no less)  his own
unique, beautifully rendered if somewhat dark-ish acoustic
version of the holiday classic “Let It Snow!”.

All knowing Wiki tells me that it was written and recorded in
California, July 1945, on what was the hottest day on record
at the time.

Never once mentioning Christmas or the Holidays in any way,
it somehow managed to become one of the best-selling songs
of all time and the holiday classic we all know and
love.

For some, Christmas may mean spending it the sun on a hot
Dominican Republic vacation or a nice stay in many a Jamaican
hotels
, but for the rest of us, a great Christmas movie or a song
like “Let It Snow” is all one needs.

For me, whenever I hear this song, the only thing that comes
to mind are the end credits for both Die Hard movies.

Why? I dunno. It just does.

Too soft rock for my taste. Where does Kenny G come in?

Merry Christmas Jon and every other music aficionado! Thanks for sharing.

Funnily enough I was trawling Youtube yesterday to try to find a suitable Jon Auer clip to send to my friends as a Christmas greeting… Looks like Santa listened. :)

I love the Posie’s sound on this classic. Steve thought it depressing, but that’s the Posie’s sound, not depressing… melancholy. And Paul likened it to Elliot Smith, definitely. Hmm, is there any ES Christmas covers out there? As for Cool Whip, I wonder if there’s a product placement there? Thanks for sharing.
