Posted on | February 11, 2011 | No Comments

Announcements have started to pour in for SXSW day parties (check out Austin360 and Donewaiting for listings and follow @SXSWPartyList, @sxswparty, @wristbandless, @SXSWfreeparties, @unSXSW, @SXSWFreeNOMS on Twitter aswell to be kept up to date) and one of the
best (and on top of my list) is the annual Filter Magazine Day Party
@ Cedar Street Courtyard going down this year March 17-19.
Highlights from this year’s lineup includes The Vaccines, Weekend,
Surfer Blood, Datarock and The Naked And Famous.
Less we forget, show up early, fill up your belly with delicious, Texas style
BBQ meat for gratis.

SXSW: 2011 ( Unofficial ) Music Torrent
Posted on | February 10, 2011 | No Comments

Yesterday was the schedule, today it’s the torrent.
Since 2005, some wonderful wizard (@sxswtorrent.com) decided to collect all the songs the SXSW website posts online to preview the artists coming to that year’s edition of the festival into one gigantor of a MP3 torrent.
It’s usually in 2 parts, first part being now and second, a week or two
before the festival begins.
Part I ( 792 mp3s ~ 4.49GB ) | Part II ( 362 mp3s ~ 2.09GB )
Make sure that once you’re done downloading to keep SEEDING!!!
At least for a little while or the good lord above will smite you
for being a douchey leecher.
SXSW also started their own streaming radio station through
Shoutcast that’s worth checking out.
It sure makes choosing through that HUGE lineup of bands alot easier.
Don’t let the size of the file scare you. It usually takes me a week to go through
it all and sure, most of the music is shite but I discover at least dozens of bands
a year thanks to this torrent so even though you might not attend SXSW this year, it’s a really good way to discover your next favorite band of the month.

MVs Collection #27

No Age – “Fever Dreaming”
Directed by Patrick Daughters.
This being the best song on the record, Dean & Randy had to go for one of
the best directors in the music video business (Grizzly Bear‘s “Two
Weeks”) to come up with this grisly concept.
Each time the camera zooms in the frame, something get’s eaten away.
Throw in some sweet gore at the end and it’s a pretty awesome video.
“Everything In Between” out now on Sub Pop.
The Go! Team – “Buy Nothing Day”
Directed by James Slater.
Featuring Best Coast‘s Bethany Cosentino on vocals, this is off their new album
“Rolling Blackouts” out this Tuesday on Memphis Industries.
Best Coast (w/ Local band No Joy and Wavves opening) will be @ Cabaret Mile-End February 5th.
18$ advance / 20$ door — > Tickets
The Whigs – “So Lonely”
Directed by The Whigs.
A self shot performance video for my favorite song on their latest album
“In The Dark”.
The Vaccines – “Post Break-Up Sex”
Directed by Stephen Agnew.
You hear that LOUD buzzing sound?
It’s UK outfit The Vaccines that will be invading your hipster world in the coming
months with their debut album “What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?”
set to be released in the UK March 31st.
In the meantime, a 3-song EP will be released February 8th.
They shall be in Austin, TX this March for SXSW gigging all over and around
6th Street.
