Posted on | April 19, 2011 | No Comments

Not even a week gone by and already new additions to the the lineup have been

For me, what was missing this year from the roster was an old school Hip Hop act.
Well how about Cypress Hill to fill up that quota?
That my friends is pretty rad.
You also have Canuck Indie Rock super collective Broken Social Scene back
on one of the main stages this year. Janelle Monae will also grace us with her presence for the first time here in our fair city and on one of Osheaga‘s five stages.
The rest of the newly added artists to the roster (w/ more announcements to come):

2011 Osheaga Music Festival ( Lineup Announced )
Posted on | April 12, 2011 | No Comments
The organizers had too much music on their plates this year that it could not be
contained in merely 2 days, a third day had to be summoned.
The 6th edition of this now 3 day festival goes down @ Parc Jean-Drapeau
July 29th, 30th and 31st.
Last year’s lineup was pretty much unbeatable. Expectations were high for this year’s
and although they haven’t quite reached the madness that was the one-two punch of a
Arcade Fire / Weezer headliner weekend, they’ve come pretty close.
You’ve got your Eminem who hasn’t set foot in our fair city since the year 2000.
Elder statesman Elvis Costello and the crew he rolls with right now
“The Imposters” to show the young indie kids how it’s done.
The Flaming Lips, back for a 2nd time @ Osheaga, performing their 1999 classic album “The Soft Bulletin” in it’s entirety.
And you have your Death Cab for Cutie, for all those sad emo kids outthere,
here this year to promote their new album “Codes And Keys” out May 31st.
The newly reunited Death From above 1979, who caused a riot @ SXSW
last month of which i sadly missed, always down for a good riot.
Montreal’s local scene reprazentin’ again this year with Malajube, Karkwa and Galaxie showing some Frenchie pride and Bran Van 3000, Braids, Suuns, The High Dials, The Luyas and Sam Roberts Band representing the Anglos on the bill.
What would be an Osheaga bill without some old timers and joining Costello you have The Tragically Hip, the most Canadian band I can think of fitting that bill quite nicely.
Up and comers i.e. the new kids on the block: Twin Shadow, Anna Calvi, Smith Westerns and Natalia Kills.
Making me VERY happy is Manchester Orchestra finally making it up here. Their new album “Simple Math” out May 10th is my most anticipated release of this lovely Spring. To give you a taste on how awesome they are, watch the just released music video for the title track right here.
The rest of the lineup:
Kid Cudi, Bright Eyes, City and Colour, Ratatat, Beirut, Crystal Castles, Bassnectar, MSTRKRFT, John Butler Trio, The Sounds, Sia, Jamie XX
(of The XX), Claude Von Stroke, Eels, Yoav, Mountain Goats, Fucked Up, White Lies, Hey Rosetta!, Lights, Robot Koch, Shad, Tokyo Police Club, Jimmy Hunt, PS I Love You, Mother Mother, Brother, Girl Unit, The Low Anthem, Passwords, Jesuslesfilles and Typhoon.
The daily line-up will be announced on Tuesday, April 19th.
I don’t have to tell you this is all subject to change at any point. Bands will be added and some will drop out so keep an eye out for them changes.
To be kept abreast of any and all said changes, why don’t you follow them on good ol’ Twitter and the Facebook.
Osheaga In The City is also coming back this year from July 27 to the 30th
with shows in venues all around town. Just wetting our appetite until the main event. Those will be announced shortly.
Tickets go onsale this Friday, April 15th @ NOON.

SXSW 2011: The Videos
Posted on | March 31, 2011 | No Comments

48 in all.
Took a whole week to sort them out and upload them on the Youtube.
Great footage from True Widow, Young Adults, new Friendly Fires songs from
their upcoming album “Pala” performed @ the Fader Fort.
The very short set (15 minutes) from The Vaccines @ the Filter Magazine day party which mark my words, them Brits gonna blow up BIG this year.
James Blake @ the Pitchfork showcase, Lanterns On The Lake, The Naked And Famous, Chapel Club in Waterloo Records parking lot … all these were my highlights for the 25th edition of South By.
Attending the Foo Fighters: Back & Forth movie premiere (but sadly not the
surprise show @ Stubb’s) and catching Scenes From The Suburbs, the Spike Jonze
directed, Arcade Fire short film (with the young cast in attendance) @ the Alamo
Drafthouse (my favorite movie theater on earth) kicked much ass.
One downside: WAY too many people. At least double in size from last year which
made it harder to get into shows at night. Seems next year I’ll have to finally
put down some dough for a wristband.
I was gonna do a post for each day those videos were shot but me thinks if I
did, I might lose it and tear out my short and curlys one by one so wanting to
keep those in place, you’re getting a MEGA post out of this.
Some videos do not have their song titles so if you happen to know them, leave said
info in the comment section.
SXSW 2012 only 355 days away.
March 15th ( Tuesday )
March 16th ( Wednesday )
