Radiohead Starts Work On New Album. Music Nerds Rejoices.

What music blogs in their right minds would *not* be talking about this
today I ask you?
Well, let me be music blog #34251 to let you know that yes, Thom Yorke
and the boys are back in the studio working on a new album.
After the awesomeness that was “In Rainbows” back in 2007 and all the
hoopla that came with it (that whole pay-what-you-want business) they
are back in the studio with long time collaborator Nigel Godrich
working on the next opus.
Bassist Colin Greenwood, spoke with BBC Radio 6 at the Great Escape
Music Festival in Brighton this weekend, who was there helping to
launch a new music journal called Loops.
“It was very noisy and chaotic and really fun,” he said.
“It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped
it out on the floor and we’re just looking at all the bits and thinking
what’s next?”
“I’m very impressed and grateful for Nigel our producer and his ability
to make it all sound vaguely plausible”.
Also from NME.com: “We’ve just started work [in the studio] last week,
“It’s really cool and everything is sounding great. It’s early days and
it is a bit like having a scrapbook at the moment because everything is
up in the air, but it’s good to be back in the studio.”
They just finished touring South America with their music idols Kraftwerk
and they’ve got a few festival appearances scheduled this summer for
the Leeds and Reading music festival in good ‘ol England.
No release date scheduled for that new album just yet but since they’re
not tied up to a major label anymore and like they did with “In Rainbows”
they could pretty much release it whenever they damn well feel like it
so I wouldn’t be surprise if come fall we have it in our hot little hands.
In the meantime, watch “House Of Cards”, the gorgeous, eerie music video
(and my favorite of 2008) that cannot be seen enough.
Radiohead – “House Of Cards”
Just look at the pretty colors.
Video was shot light and camera-less and it involved cool lasers and shit.
This making-of video will explain all.

North By Northeast 2009 ( Lineup Announced )
Posted on | May 12, 2009 | No Comments
Another day, another festival lineup announcement.
In it’s 15th year of existence, North By Northeast Music Festival will go down
June 17-21, 2009.
A 5 day affair, much like it’s big brother, South By Southwest (which it was
patterned after) 500 bands playing in 50 clubs in and around the greater T Dot area.
And like SXSW, conferences, trade shows and a film festival featuring music
documentaries, all happening during the week.
The only downside, unlike SXSW where the day starts at noon and ends around 2am,
NXNE only goes down at night so consider yourself lucky if you end up seeing two
seperate shows on any given night.
Now, if i were to go (looking into the possibility) these are the bands / artists I would
urge you to check out:
The Sonics, No Age, The Cool Kids, GZA, Burning Brides, Apostle of Hustle,
The Coast, Les Handclaps, Ume.
Looking at the band roster, these are the only names I recognized / cared about.
Alot of of unknowns on that list at least to me. That’s why these festivals are
important in the music world. Get a chance to discover new artists where
otherwise you would not have said chance.
You can look up the complete band list here. More will be added in the coming weeks.
As for tickets, you can buy yourself a V.I.P. Pass which will get you pretty much
everywhere you wanna go for a cool 250$ to a 5-Day Wristband which will set you
back 50 bones.

Soulwax Will Never Die

The Dewaele brothers.
Stephen (singer) and David (guitarist).
Belgians by birth but now, citizens of the world.
Started their music careers back in 1996 with Soulwax, IMHO the best
electro-rock band working it today.
They have 3 albums to their name: Leave The Story Untold (1996), Much
Against Everyone’s Advice (1998) and my favorite in the bunch, Any Minute
Now (2004) and it’s remix album Nite Versions (2005).
In 2003, they released the landmark mash-ups album “As Heard on Radio
Soulwax Pt. 2”, 30 tracks of mash-up insanity, melding artists together as
diverse as The Stooges with Salt N’ Pepa to mixing Destiny’s Child
with 10cc … etc.
Thus the 2ManyDJ’s moniker was born.
They’re also quite in demand as remixers.
they’ve remixed everybody from Basement Jaxx to Muse, Kyle Minogue,
Tahiti 80, Ladytron, DJ Shadow, Daft Punk, Justice, Hot Chip,
Einstürzende Neubauten … the list goes on and on.
Last Fall, they released a concert documentary titled “Part Of The
Weekend Never Dies”. It was shot during the summer of 2006 with only
one camera, filmed 120 shows in Europe, Japan, North America, Latin
America and Australia. The tour consisted of them opening as Soulwax
and closing out the night with a 2ManyDJ’s set.
It’s the usual rock doc with behind the scenes footage of the brothers
hanging out, a snippet of life on the road, interviews with their peers:
Peaches, Tiga, justice, LCD Soundsystem’s James murphy & Nancy Whang,
Klaxons, Digitalism and a naked guy off the streets.
Add to that live footage of audience’s enthralled by the Dewaele‘s knob
twiddling abilities and you got a 70 minutes infomercial on how awesome
they are.
I had the pleasure of attending a set of theirs on that summer of ’06
tour and they had me busting out my uncoordinated white boy moves on the
dance floor (which is quite the feat), they pretty much had everyone in
the palm of ther hands.

What are they up to now?
A new Soulwax and 2ManyDJ’s albums are in the works, still taking their
DJ skills on the road, they were in Swindon, England this weekend for the
BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend festival.
Their entire set was posted online:
2ManyDj’s live from BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend – May 8, 2009
The setlist for this performance was posted here.
Lastly, they are set to launch their own online radio station at the end of the month.
Check out their Myspace page for their many many upcoming live performances.

2009 Virgin Music Festival ( The Montreal Edition )
Posted on | May 6, 2009 | No Comments

Alright so I lied.
There’s a new summer music festival I will talk about.
This one came totally out of the blue.
We’re getting our own Virgin Music Festival.
June 20-21, 2009 @ Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Here’s the lineup:
June 20
Black Eyed Peas
Simple Plan
Hedley
The New Cities
Eva Avila
June 21
New Kids On The Block
Akon
Live
Lights
Divine Brown
More to be announced.
Simple Plan, Hedley, Akon and NKOTB?
I. Am. So. IN!!!
That’s just what the world needed, a summer music festival for tweeners
and soccer moms.
Obviously I’d rather take a refreshing acid bath than sit trough 2 days
of Top 40 artists and a boy band 20 years past it’s prime but this thing’s
gonna make HUGE loads of cash for Greenland which in turns will probably
help bring more bands here I actually care about so well played GEG.
Alls I’m saying is Osheaga‘s got nothing to worry about.
Five Virgins will go down all around the Great White North this year:
British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Montreal and Nova Scotia.
Keep an eye on ’em. It’s gonna get messy.
Tickets go onsale Saturday, May 9th @ 10am.
In closing, here’s a verse from the 1994 NKOTB superhit “Dirty Dawg”.
Yo, yo, why you wanna act like a tramp, a wet food stamp,
I think it’s time for me to break camp
Had a crush on my man the first time we met.
Now what you see is what you get
Lost more than a mil on a gambling bet
So here’s the Chuckwagon for the dog in you,
Here’s the kennelration and the Alpo too
