Videos: Soundgarden @ Ottawa Bluesfest (07. 05. 2011)

Posted on | July 6, 2011 | No Comments

I finally got to cross out the band on top of my “bands I need to see before
I kick it”
list.

To be honest, I never thought last night would happen. What luck that I got to
be around and witnessed most probably the awesomest rock n’ roll night of my life.

You would think after 15 years of waiting, I was bound to be letdown but that was not the case at all.

Chris Cornell was in fine form. Kim Thayil, still one of the best axeman around.
Matt Cameron may just be a drumming cyborg and Ben Shepherd is the most badass bass player ever. That guy means it.

I mean shit, look at this setlist:

Black Rain
Searching With My Good Eye Closed
Let Me Drown
Spoonman
Jesus Christ Pose
My Wave
The Day I Tried To Live
Blow Up The Outside World
Hunted Down
Ugly Truth
Fell On Black Days
Burden In My Hand
Black Hole Sun
Rusty Cage
Outshined
Beyond The Wheel

Encore:

Loud Love
Superunknown
Slaves And Bulldozers

I couldn’t have asked for better. Well maybe adding “4th Of July” in there but really
I was quite satisfied.

Still being this tight after such a long hiatus just speaks volumes to the true greatness of these rock n’ roll giants.

I cannot wait for this new album and hopefully a tour in the new year.

I managed to capture 7 songs.

Going in, I wanted to enjoy the show fully without having me to keep my camera rolling but I couldn’t help myself.

You will hear me sing (badly) on some of these and for that I truly apologize.

I was in the moment and could not resist.

Soundgarden Summer Tour + New Album News

Posted on | July 4, 2011 | No Comments

I’ve been waiting 15 years for this.

I had every intentions in seeing Soundgarden on the Quebec stop of the 1996
Lollapalooza tour
but sadly it was not to be. Thinking I would’ve had
a chance to see them on their own tour a few months later not knowing
they would disband in early 1997.

But it sure as hell don’t matter now cause they are back this Summer
on a massive North American tour.

They’ve already played their first show 2 days ago in Toronto and
they managed to cram in 29 songs in a 2 hour set, spanning their entire
recording career. Check out the Knights Of The Soundtable Message Board
for the setlist + pictures and videos.

I am BEYOND PSYCHED for tomorrow’s show @ the Ottawa Bluesfest.

Shame that I can’t experience one of my all-time favorite band in my
hometown of Montreal but a 2 hour drive ain’t that bad to get my Grunge
on.

Summer North American Tour Dates:

7/05 – Ottawa, ON @ Ottawa Bluesfest
7/06 – Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun Arena ^
7/08 – Newark, NJ @ Prudential Center ^
7/09 – Wantagh, NY @ Nikon at Jones Beach Theater ^
7/10 – Mansfield, MA @ Comcast Center For The Performing Arts ^
7/13 – Philadelphia, PA @ Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing *
7/14 – Atlantic City, NJ @ Borgata Event Center *
7/16 – Chicago, IL @ UIC Pavilion *
7/18 – Morrison, CO @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre *
7/21 – San Francisco, CA @ Bill Graham Civic Center *
7/22 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Forum *
7/23 – Las Vegas, NV @ The Joint *
7/29 – Vancouver, BC @ Rogers Arena &
7/30 – George, WA @ The Gorge #

^ = w/ Coheed And Cambria
* = w / The Mars Volta
& = w/ Queens Of The Stone Age and Meat Puppets
# = w/ Queens Of The Stone Age, Mastodon and Meat Puppets

The new album is 80% done according to Matt Cameron.

“We’re going to record a couple more songs in August when we get back from tour
and then hopefully we can mix it up and put it out”
.

Adam Kasper his back behind the boards producing. He last worked with the band on 1996’s “Down On The Upside”.

According to guitarist Kim Thayil, who gave a progress report to Stereogum about the new album, they have 14 songs in various stages of completion.

They’re shooting for a 2012 release.

Here be in music video form, highlights of the massive awesomeness that is Soundgarden.
