CMJ Week is almost upon us!

CMJ’s 35th edition will go down a week early from previous years’ time, running from October 13th to the 17th.

1400+ artists is a crazy amount of music to be performed in a
short 5 day period but somehow, they pull it off every single year.

The entire schedule is now up!

My #1 highlight is without a doubt seeing Failure. Last time was in
New York City back in May 2014 @ Irving Plaza and it was my favorite live show of that year so seeing them on the 14th @ Brooklyn Bowl is a no brainer.

The best and most reliable shows i’ve experienced year after year at CMJ are the free day shows at Pianos and Cake Shop, conveniently located side by side on Ludlow street on the Lower East Side.

This year’s no exception.

Beverly, Eternal Summers, Cheatahs, The Album Leaf … are a few of the bands
I’m already aware of from this year’s lineups but mostly, you go to Pianos/Cake Shop to discover up-and-coming bands.

Also, I must represent the 514 and let you know that there will be an all Montreal bands lineup featuring: Solids, Chocolat, Elliot Maginot, Loud Lary Ajust, Cri, Heart Streets, The Muscadettes and Sean Nicholas Savage @ Arlene’s Grocery starting at 8pm, Thursday October 16th.

So much talent crammed into one night and the possibility to learn a few french words along the way is not a bad deal.

As for my picks, much like previous years, I’d rather let the music videos listed below do the talking.

Since days, set times and venues could change at any moment, do check out
the CMJ website for the official showcases times and venues but also,
Ohmyrockness
for all the other gigs they’ve booked up.

Do get the APP. That is a must. Most helpful indeed.
