MVs Collection #13 ( SXSW 2010 )

Posted on March 14, 2010 |

I loves me the Power Pop. I try to catch as many bands as I possibly
can while I’m @ SXSW.

There will be this huge outdoor show @ Auditorium Shores Stage with
90’s alt rock bands Cracker, The Bodeans (remember that Party Of
Five
theme song?) and legends of the genre … Cheap Trick.

This goes down Friday, March 19th starting @ 6pm.

Here’s my top 3 picks:

Bleu – “No Such Thing As Love”

A parade of hot ladies (in bras and panties) looking straight into
Bleu‘s camera all sexy like. Directed by David J Dowling.

Bleu (aka William James “Bleu” McAuley III) came back last year
with a new solo album titled “A Watched Pot”. He released one
of my favorite power pop albums of 2002 with “Redhead”.

Pretty stoked to finally see do his thing live.

He’s got 2 shows scheduled @ SXSW:

Friday, March 19th9pm @ Cissi’s Market
Saturday, March 20th3pm @ The Hideout Theatre

The 88 – “Go Go Go”

Stop motion filming put to great effect in the 88’s practice space
where wacky band hijinx ensues.

Known these days as the band behind the “Community” theme song, their
last release was 2008’s “Not Only…But Also”. They shall bring their
brand of shiny power pop to SXSW at these following venues:

Thursday, March 18th5pm @ The Side Bar and 9:30pm @ La Zona Rosa.

Big Star – “Thank You Friends”

This video was edited together from footage of the band shot by Chris
Bell
and Andy Hummel while they were in the studio recording their
1972 debut, the classic “#1 Record”.

The granddaddies of the genre and one of it’s most influential,
Big Star will be one of the acts closing out the festival. They will
perform @ Antone’s (backed by Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies)
at 12:30am.
