It’s happening.
After the release of 2010’s Anthology “Telephantasm”, last year’s live album “Live on I-5”, their end credit song “Live To Rise” for the “Avengers Assemble” soundtrack and countless summer festival shows in the last 2 years, including
the one I attended @ Ottawa Bluesfest last year, they’ve finally pulled the
trigger in releasing their first album in 16 years titled “King Animal” Out November 13th on Seven Four/Republic.
They co-produced it with their go to guy Adam Kasper, who worked on 1994‘s “Superunknown” and their last opus, 1996‘s “Down On The Upside”.
Hearing the small song snippet in the teaser trailer below, gave me hope for goodness. That creepy-ish, Cornell distorted voice made me recall the songs “Applebite” and “Boot Camp” from Downside, it has this eerie and cosmic vibe I really hope is all over the new album.
It’s a risky proposition getting the band back together after all these years, there’s a legacy to fuck up and you hope deep down that they still have that hunger, vitality and inspiration which in turn, churns out great rock n’ roll tunes.
I guess we’ll find out second week of November if indeed one of my all-time favorite band still “got it”.
First single, “Been Away Too Long” will be out September 19th.
