One of my true listening pleasures of 2009 was the sophomore album
“Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future” by L.A. duo The Bird And The Bee.

Singer Inara George‘s luscious voice and Greg Kurstin‘s wizardry behind
the boards crafted one of the best electro/lounge-y/retro pop album of
last year.

They’re back! this time with a new tribute album to 80’s cheese ball
love song crafters Hall & Oates titled “Guiltless Pleasures Volume 1:
A tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates” coming out March 23rd on
Blue Note Records.

It features 8 classic covers along with one new original song
titled “Heard It On The Radio.”

I am not surprised in the least by this release. They’ve done quite a
few covers at their live shows over the years. In fact, I shot this
footage
of “How Deep Is Your Love” by The Bee Gees (candidates for volume 2?)
at an in-store performance @ Waterloo Records at South By Southwest last year.

Sadly for me (us), no SXSW appearance for TBATB this year. Inara is about to pop
out her first kid in April. They will however, have an album release party @
The El Rey Theatre in L.A. March 5th. Tickets are on sale right now.

If you watch The Grammys on Sunday (and who doesn’t really), Greg is one
of the nominee for Producer Of The Year for his work on the Bird And The
Bee and Lily Allen’s album “It’s Not You, It’s Me”.

Here’s them covering “I Can’t Go For That”, shot @ The Independent in
San Francisco – February 9th, 2009.
